About us
Centro Sperimentale del Latte (CSL) was founded in 1948 by Dr Leo Vesely to study and increase the value of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and other food-grade microorganisms. CSL was the first Italian company to study and demonstrate the importance of LAB cultures in humans.
In 2013, CSL was aquired by the Verga family who also own Caglificio Clerici and Sacco. This newly established group aims to consolidate and explore joint competencies and skills to create a new centre of excellence in Lifescience, where innovative technologies will merge with the experience of over 100 years of history of studying and working with enzymes and cultures and microorganisms.
Centro Sperimentale del Latte, with Caglificio Clerici, Sacco and Kemikalia is now a part of Sacco System, the biotech network of international excellence in the food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries. Sacco System’s mission is "Supporting food culture and life": to improve the lives of consumers via good nutrition which requires the manufacture of natural, functional and healthier finished products, which results from the sharing of resources and know-how across the four companies.
Today CSL studies develop, produces and sells probiotics, starter cultures, moulds and yeasts for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, dairy, food and agro-vet sectors.
CSL works to combine basic and applied research, with more than 300 publications between experimental works and reviews.
CSL has two production plants in Italy, both located inZelo Buon Persico. These facilities produce pharmaceutical APIs, food, nutraceutical and agro-vet products.
CSL sells its products globally through our CSL sister companies in APAC, France and the USA as well as distributors in some countries.
