Nutrition of infants and young children what are daily needs for DHA?

28 Feb 2023

After 6 months, breast milk alone does NOT satisfy the energy and nutritional needs of the infant any more. It does NOT satisfy the need for omega-3 fatty acids (DHA). It is necessary to introduce supplementation and sources of omega-3 fatty acids in diet.

The recommended intake of fish for children, in order to ensure daily needs of DHA, depending on the age, is 100 – 150 grams of fish per week.

PROVEN CLINICAL EFFICACYIt has been clinically proven that DHA, as the main structural component of the retina, affects the development of vision, visual acuity and eye function. Based on clinical evidence, the European Food Safety Authority has confirmed and recommended a daily dose of 100 mg of DHA by the end of the first year of life.
