Guar gum
Product description
The guar pod is the fruit of an annual, bushlike plant that depends on the yearly monsoon rains. It is grown on small farms in the desert-like areas of India and Pakistan. After the beans have been threshed, the guar seeds go to the guar gum manufacturers. There, the endosperms (splits) are separated from the seedlings and the shells using a thermomechanical process.
The seedlings (guar meal) are valued as protein-rich animal feed. A milling process is used to create guar gum from the splits.
The guar seeds contain about 37% galactomannan.
