Pumpkin seeds Cucurbita pepo L. belongs to Cucurbitaceae family. In Poland it is cultivated as vegetable as well as for valuable seeds. Pumpkin seeds are rich in greasy oil and protein. Apart from that they are the source of carotenes, polyphenols, vitamins B, vitamin A and E and minerals – phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron.
Processed pumpkin seeds are used as traditional medicinal product for relieving symptoms of enlargement of the prostate gland, bladder’s infection and increased urine excretion. In folk medicine fresh pumpkin seeds are used as parasiticide.
