Rose Hip
Product description
Rosehip (Rosa canina) is the freshy, ripened scarlet ovary, or seeded fruit, of the rose plant. It forms at the base of the rose petals and is picked in autumn when all of the petals have fallen off. While many rose varieties are grown for their beauty and fragrance, the Rosa canina is cultivated for its hips, which are a valuable source of vitamin C.
In addition to its remarkable vitamin C content, rosehip contains carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin), flavonoids, polyphenols, leucoanthocyanins, catechins and vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and K.
Rosehip’s astringent qualities also make it a valuable ingredient in many cosmetic preparations and bath/body products including lotions, soaps and shampoos.
