Source Brewing brews a tribute to Beastie Boys with an IPA beer
10 Nov 2021New Jersey-based Source Brewing is paying tribute to the legendary 90s group from its home state with the re-release of Intergalactic Imperial IPA. As a limited release last year, Intergalactic was one of the brewery's most popular creations, selling out in a matter of minutes.
This year, the release has already sold out at the brewery’s taproom and is only available through the app Tavour, which specializes in hard-to-find craft brews.

Those that are fighting for their right to party, can purchase a 4-pack of this limited availability beer that comes with a commemorative glass featuring an original design by artist Linda Mencel. Described as "rebellious, edgy, heady, and smooth" by Source Brewing, the Beastie Boys tribute beer has notes of tangerine, apricot, candied orange, and melon. The IPA has a 9% alcohol by volume content.
When Source Brewing released this beer in 2020, it was the first artist tribute beer that they had released. However, it was such a hit that they have released several others since. Specialty artist-inspired beers from this New Jersey brewery include a pale ale called Help>Slip>Hazy, inspired by Grateful Dead and a Beatles-themed All You Need is Love IPA.
According to an Instagram post by the brewery regarding the original release of this hoppy, medium bodied IPA with a “soft pillowy mouthfeel,” Intergalactic is part of the Artist Tribute Series that was created for the brewers behind the scenes to pay their respects to their “favorite musicians, artists, and people who have influenced us throughout our lives by brewing a special beer in their honor.”
Fans of the Beastie Boys will recognize the name of this IPA from the 1998 album “Hello Nasty” where "Intergalactic" was included, and for which the group won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance.
