To sort bulk goods for size, sieving machines are often used. Unfortunately, the pores of these sieves are easily obstructed or glued. Therefore, BRACE developed rotating drum sieving machines. The pores of these sieves are kept clean by a brush that is placed outside the sieving drum. Moreover, the rotating drum sieving machine can sort large amounts of bulk goods with very little consumption of energy. The rotating drum sieve machine works in principle like this: The bulk good is delivered to the first sieving drum via a vibrating channel. The particles whose diameters are smaller than the width of the mesh size can pass those and are separated from the rest. They fall into a second sieving drum which mesh size is bigger than those of the first sieve and so on. The particles that are larger than the mesh size of the last sieve are collected separately as oversized granules. Usually, two up to four different sieving drums are used for the fractionation of bulk goods. The use of a sieving drum is recommended for the sorting of volumes from 30-50 litres per hour upwards. For the sorting of very sensitive goods or of goods that are easily charged when handled, BRACE offers drum sieving machines that are optimized for these purposes and can even sort wet goods.
