MARNYS – Martínez Nieto, S.A publishes its 2021 sustainability report
22 Feb 2023MARNYS – Martínez Nieto, S.A. has published its Sustainability Report for the 2021 financial year. This document includes MARNYS responsible actions and the company’s commitment to health, well-being, environmental protection, and social causes, among others.
- The document sets out the actions in Corporate Social Responsibility and the company’s commitment to caring for people and the planet.
- The food supplements and natural cosmetics laboratory is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
This report is the third one published by the food supplements and natural cosmetics laboratory since the 2019 financial year. It has been drawn up in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) 2016 Standards, the international benchmark institution for the preparation of sustainability reports.
As Roberto Martínez, CEO of MARNYS – Martínez Nieto S.A. explains: “We work to build a more sustainable and healthy future, being responsible with our production processes, the environment and the reduction of waste and emissions. In short, we seek the maximum productivity while minimising our impact on the environmental and social ecosystem. And all these actions are what we have sought to reflect in this Sustainability Report 2021.“
MARNYS’ main achievements in 2021 include the company’s commitment to health and wellness, working to promote sport through various sponsorships and collaborations with local sports clubs and athletes from different disciplines and categories.
Another of MARNYS’ milestones included in this report is its commitment to innovation. The company constantly invests in R&D&I, with close to 1.5 million euros a year earmarked for the development of new products, as well as improvements in research and production processes.
Likewise, the company’s Sustainable Development Plan occupies a prominent place in this Sustainability Report 2021. The CSR programme ‘MARNYS Planet‘, includes the actions aimed at protecting the environment, reducing emissions, and combating climate change. Thus, as Lourdes López, head of CSR at MARNYS, explains: “thanks to the installation of the solar photovoltaic plant and improvements in lighting, air conditioning and insulation systems, we have managed to reduce energy consumption, and thus CO2 emissions, by 36%. We have also launched a project to calculate and offset our carbon footprint by supporting environmental projects certified by the United Nations.“
Finally, the document includes the laboratory’s commitment to social integration (‘MARNYS Community’) and the promotion of talent (‘MARNYS Talent’). “We have expanded alliances with universities, technology centres and social entities to achieve the objectives related to development, training, innovation and equal opportunities,” adds Lourdes López.
Six CSR programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals
This Sustainability Report 2021 is part of MARNYS’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Plan. This Plan is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, and based on them, the company has created its six CSR Programmes:
‘MARNYS Planet’, for the protection of the environment; ‘MARNYS Community’, for the promotion of integration and support for the most disadvantaged groups; ‘MARNYS Healthy’, for the protection of people’s health and well-being; ‘MARNYS Talent’, for professional and personal development and support for education; ‘MARNYS Quality’, to ensure and reinforce the quality of products and manufacturing processes; and 'MARNYS Ecofin’, to promote economic and social development, as well as good corporate governance.
As MARNYS CEO Roberto Martínez concludes: “Throughout this year we have made considerable progress in the actions set out in our Corporate Social Responsibility Plan, aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, and we have managed to carry out actions to address practically all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”
