In pet food, carrageenan is used as a gelling agent where a firm and protective gel is needed. It is a gel binder in ground meat and has the ability to modify strength and melting point of gel. The gel allows easy-release from the metal can. It improves palatability in pet food and produces elastic gels, provides “cling” in sauces and gravies at low use level.
